Hurt by the removal of his song from "Sultan" (2016), Arijit posted a public apology to Salman Khan on Facebook. Despite repeated apologies from the singer, this happened in "Kick" (2014), "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" (2015), and "Sultan" (2016). Over the next few years, Salman Khan either prohibited Arijit from singing songs in his films or removed songs after he had recorded them. Arijit's quip infuriated Salman and he went on to mock the singer during the function. When he was called on stage to collect the award, Salman Khan, who was one of the show's hosts, said "So gaye the?", to which Arijit replied "Aap logon ne sula diya yaar tab se.". Tired from the hours he had spent in the studio, he dozed off during the function. Arijit landed up at the function in chappals and casual wear since he came straight from work. He had initially thought of skipping the function but changed his mind on producer Mukesh Bhatt's insistence. Arijit was editing a song for Pritam on the night of the function and had a flight to catch later in the night. An incident occurred on the night of the Star Guild Awards function that haunted him for years to come. The Star Guild Best Male Playback Singer award was among the many awards Arijit Singh won for this song.Music director Mithoon dedicated this song to his father Naresh Sharma who had played a key role in arranging the music of "Aashiqui" (1990).
